World Cancer Day: A Day of Unity and Awareness

The theme for this year’s World Cancer Day was ‘Close the Care Gap’, focusing on reducing global inequities in cancer care. The fun run event at Roche Caiman drew a diverse crowd of over 200 participants, all united in raising awareness about cancer and honoring survivors.

All Ages, One Cause

The event was a true community affair, featuring participants from all walks of life, including senior citizens and a group of students from local schools. Everyone gathered for a warm-up session led by fitness instructor Dorothy Isidore before embarking on the fun run or walk around the fitness trail, depending on their physical capabilities.

A Testament to Awareness and Action

Francis Remie, Director of the sports for all unit within the National Sports Council, praised the event’s turnout and diversity. “The variety in age groups participating in this event signifies a heightened level of awareness about the seriousness of cancer across different demographics,” he noted.

Adopting a Healthy Lifestyle

The event also emphasized the importance of a healthy lifestyle in cancer prevention, with experts noting that 30-50% of cancers could be prevented by increased physical activity and other healthy habits.
