As part of Pink October, the Cancer Concern Association (CCA) paid a courtesy visit to President Wavel Ramkalawan at State House yesterday morning. The CCA delegation, led by Chairperson Dinaz Van Der Lans, discussed the organization’s recent accomplishments and ongoing activities for Pink October.
Mrs. Van Der Lans expressed satisfaction with the discussions, noting that President Ramkalawan was particularly impressed with the free Breast Screening Campaign. “President Ramkalawan was particularly impressed with the free Breast Screening Campaign where the quota set by the CCA was already met and he generously pledged a donation of R25,000 to support this important initiative,” shared Mrs. Van Der Lans. To date, more than a hundred individuals have undergone breast screening, underscoring the importance of knowing one’s health status.
During the meeting, CCA also raised some of the challenges it faces while providing services. These include issues such as the availability of food at oncology centers and financial support for cancer patients unable to work. President Ramkalawan assured the CCA team of his commitment to assist in any way possible, leaving them content with the outcome of the meeting.
Mrs. Van Der Lans took the opportunity to encourage men to undergo breast screening, highlighting that breast cancer is not exclusive to women and that early detection is crucial for everyone.
Looking ahead, CCA has ambitious plans, including a caregiver retreat in November and the acquisition of land to build a dedicated CCA house to cater to the needs of cancer patients.
The Pink October campaign is progressing well, reflecting CCA’s dedication to raising awareness and supporting those affected by cancer.
