A Message From Our Chairperson

  • Dinaz Van Der Lans
    Chairperson

In September 2022 I was elected as chairperson of the association. I was very apprehensive as the helm of the association had been led for almost 20 years by past bishop French Chang Him. I had big shoes to fill and was blessed by him to be strong and move CCA forward.

I knew that I could use my retired time, my leadership skills and my love for volunteerism to good use.

In the past, if someone spoke to me about cancer I would feel sick in my stomach. Now I can have a good conversation with patients.  I have learnt so much.

As I look back on the last 12 months, I realise that my team and I have undertaken lots of activities, namely a successful Breast Cancer October month with our pink challenge campaign being a great success.

We have undertaken outreach awareness sessions led by member Gina Laporte to some 20 organisations and schools. We received several donations and likewise, the Association has given back to the oncology unit, and the hospice as well as financially assisting over 20 patients. CCA has now around  8 trained volunteers to be part of the Patient Support Group to assist patients with counselling.
